I’m painting the places where the human encounters something beyond itself.

I use myself as a point of reference to go beyond myself.

I use the visible world as a point of reference to reach towards something beyond the visible.

The closer I get, the more I discover there’s further to go.

A woman enters the water, suspended between the known and the unknowable. The painting explores the space between body and spirit, vulnerability and surrender, where sensuality, transformation and something beyond the physical may be felt. The water becomes a place of transition, where inner and outer worlds meet.

Quan Yin, Kintsugi, Painting, Divine Feminine, Goddess, Ascended Master, Brusho crystalline pigments & gouache on canvas, Ananda Amenet Reid,
‘Quan Yin: Kintsugi Bowl’

Created from a field of crystalline pigments shaped by rain, this painting grew from the unexpected form of a bowl emerging within the pigment. Parts of the figure have been left as the original ground rather than painted, allowing the image to exist between presence and absence. The bowl is marked with gold in the spirit of Kintsugi — an acknowledgement that what has been broken, repaired and transformed may acquire a different kind of beauty.

‘Reverence’

Two forms embrace within a shifting field of colour and light. The crystalline pigments create a landscape that is both physical and elusive, allowing the figures to appear and disappear within it.

‘Sapphic Kiss (After Klimt)’

Sapphic Kiss (After Klimt) is a personal response to Gustav Klimt’s celebrated painting The Kiss. Drawing on Klimt’s use of eroticism, ornament and pattern, I reimagine the intimate encounter from a sapphic perspective. The neurographic patterning of the jacket reflects my interest in the spontaneous and intuitive marks that can emerge through drawing.
